【Tokyo】Beginners & International Members Welcome! The Most Relaxed Badminton Club to Make Friends: "YURU-BADO"

バドミントン

"I just moved to Japan and don't have many friends to talk to yet..."

"I want to find a fresh, welcoming community in Tokyo to join after school or work."

"I want to get some exercise, but competitive sports clubs feel a bit too intense and intimidating..."

If any of these sound like you, "YURU-BADO" is the perfect badminton club for you here in Tokyo!

Unlike traditional, highly competitive sports teams, we have absolutely no strict practices, rigid hierarchies, or mandatory attendance. Our goal is simply to provide the most relaxed, chill, and comfortable space in the Tokyo area—a place where everyone can connect on equal terms, regardless of nationality, age, or badminton experience.

3 Reasons Why So Many International Members Choose "YURU-BADO"

① The Perfect Place to Make New Friends in Japan! (Welcome to Japan!)

The absolute best thing about YURU-BADO is our incredibly warm, family-like atmosphere. Our members are naturally friendly and always excited to welcome new faces into the group.

Trying to break the ice with just words can feel nerve-wracking, but playing badminton together naturally leads to high-fives and easy smiles. Even if you have just arrived in Japan, you will find yourself making lifelong friends from your very first session!

② Zero Language Barriers! Enjoy Intuitive Cross-Cultural Exchange (Global Friendly)

"I’m worried about joining a Japanese club because my Japanese isn't fluent yet..." Please don't worry about that at all!

Badminton has incredibly simple rules, making it an easy and intuitive sport to enjoy together without needing to speak the same language. During our sessions, everyone communicates effortlessly through English, simple Japanese, and gestures. You can experience real, organic international exchange right here on the court.

③ Totally Beginner-Friendly—It’s All About Having Fun!

We don't do intense drills or training to win tournaments. In fact, we warmly welcome anyone who has never even held a racket before, or those who haven't played since their school gym classes years ago.

Our members will happily guide you through the basics, from how to grip the racket to hitting the shuttlecock and learning simple rules. It is the perfect environment for anyone who just wants to break a light sweat, refresh their mind, and have a great time!

No Preparation Needed! A Fully Hassle-Free System

Starting a new life or studying abroad in Japan can be overwhelming, and buying sports gear is often the last thing on your mind. To make it as easy as possible for anyone to drop by casually, we provide everything you need:

Free Racket Rental Fully Available

There is no need to buy or bring your own badminton racket. We have plenty of rental rackets ready for you at every session.

All You Need is "Indoor Shoes" and "Activewear"

On the day of the event, just bring a pair of clean indoor athletic shoes (sneakers, gym shoes, etc.) and wear comfortable clothes. You can easily show up empty-handed straight after school or work!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. I am from abroad and cannot speak Japanese well. Can I really join?

A. Yes, absolutely! We currently have many international residents and exchange students joining our sessions. Sports speak louder than words, and you’ll find it incredibly easy to connect on the court. Plus, our members will gladly chat with you using English or simplified Japanese, so you can join us with total peace of mind.

Q. Do people usually join alone? I'm worried about fitting in.

A. Don't worry at all! Most of our participants sign up by themselves for the first time. YURU-BADO is designed to be highly social; we frequently swap pairs and mix groups during casual mini-games so that everyone gets to interact. By the time the session ends, you’ll find yourself leaving with plenty of new friends!

Q. Where do the sessions take place and how do I get there?

A. We mainly use public indoor sports centers and school gymnasiums across Tokyo—specifically in well-connected, easy-to-access areas like Ota-ku, Setagaya-ku, and Shinjuku-ku. Detailed schedules and upcoming locations are updated regularly on our website's event calendar and official social media accounts.

Lastly: We Can’t Wait to See You!

YURU-BADO is more than just a place to play badminton. We want it to be a warm, welcoming "home away from home" where everyone can share a smile and find a comforting community in a new country.

If you want to make your life in Japan much more exciting and meet wonderful people, please come and hang out with us at YURU-BADO! We are looking forward to chasing the shuttlecock and sharing a great time with you!
